D.C

D.C was so fun we had a great time but we only had one day since our real trip was to Brooklyn NY witch i'm in now but here's a little speed threw as i would like to call it. the first thing we did after checking in to our hotel was going to see the white house the home of the president everybody was very excited.
Then we saw a very cool bird on the fence of the White house.
after that we went over to the Washington monument.
after that we were walking over to meet one of our friends that lives in D.C but on the way we saw a FOX! can you believe that so here's the story we were walking and i see this bright orange fox it runs across the street. we walk over and some local workers were taking there smoking break and we asked them if it was really a fox and they said yes. by that time the fox was in the bushes but then it comes back out coming towards us it looked very angry. i was taking photo and the fox got in the range of 30 feet of me i didn't realize it my mom pulled me back. luckily the fox was going the other way but then the fox was heading straight to the workers the workers ran fast! it was crazy!. we think it came from one of the parks near by but the crazy thing was that it was right in the national mall. so that was defiantly a experience to remember. here's a pic
after that we told our friend all about it he said that he's never heard of such a thing. then we headed over to the portrait gallery for a little bit before we met up with his family for dinner. it was such great experience here are some pictures i especially like the bottle cap person and the giraffef. i also like the sculpture of the three men playing the banjo, fiddle and gutiar. also at the very bottom you will see this couch these couchs were very interesting they had them in all different colors. and the second to last picture is a Deborah Butterfield who makes horse suclputres out of wood and metal i am familiar with her work cause she has a scupture in Downtown Chicago and Downtown Evanston. i think her work is very interesting and if you are in Evanston,Downtown Chicago or DC or anywhere else she has sculpurtes go see them there very cool.

Amtrak Adventure.

Hi guys! I'm on my way to New York now but now i'm gonna talk about our Amtrak adventure. we got to Union Station in Chicago and headed straight to the check in. Little did we know that since we had a sleeper car there was a private lounge for the sleeper car passengers. We thought that was really awesome. Next, we got on the train and we were off to the nation's capitol! Our sleeper car was very cool but super tiny. We thought it would be bigger, but it's about the size of a big closet. Here are some pics:
.

Then it was time to hit the sack!. When we woke up we were in southern Pennsylvania in the beautiful snowy Appalachian mountains. The mountains were huge and filled with giant icicles and snow.
Then we headed over to the dining car for some yummy breakfast! .
Then we reached Cumberland ,Maryland the home of George Washington's headquarters. Here is a really nice photo i took in Cumberland.
Then we headed down to Martinsburg, the home of the oldest working train station in the US. Built in 1847, it was one of the only buildings to survive the Civil War. it is now a national history landmark.

You're probably wondering how I got all these great photos from a little window. Well, I didn't. There's a very cool lounge and sight-seeing car on the train. It has huge windows to look out through. I spent a lot of time there.
And then we arrived in our nation's capitol!
And that was our train adventure. I'll write another post about DC. Thats all for now. Ruben.

cross country skiing winter 2014

well today i had a wonderful experience cross country skiing at the Wilmette golf course. i have only been cross country skiing for a short while and it's super fun i had done it in Wisconsin but the snow was so deep but today there was nice slick snow at the golf course that you could glide across it almost as if you were ice skating. they also had really nice hills that were fun to go down on. cross country skiing is really a nice thing to do in the winter cause it's good exercise and you can learn how to do it in a very short period of time also you can do it when it's very cold out and still be comfortable. So there's a nice winter activity that you could do!!!. i wish i had taken a photo but it's hard to take a photo on ski's. that's all for now Ruben.

Geocaching

Hi Everyone in this post i would like to talk about geocaching. you might ask what is geocaching. geocaching is technology based treasure hunt you find these little containers/caches with GPS coordinates witch you can use on your phone or GPS. Geocaches can be as big as a 2 feet or they can be as tiny as a a little pebble. also there are all different kinds of caches. a traditional geocache is just a regular geocache. a puzzle cache you have to solve a puzzle to find the cache. and there are many other types of caches. each geocache has a number and a cache page that cache page will have the name of the cache a description of the cache a hint sometimes or even photos. the cache page will also have the digital logs of the people who have found it. there is also a physical log inside the actual geocache witch you sign and put the date that you found it . some geocaches also might have stuff like money little knick nacks that sort of thing. sometimes you might find a travel bug or a geocoin. travel bugs and geocoins are trackable items witch have QR or barcodes that people scan with there phone. each travel bug has a owner. the owner sets the goal for the travel bug or geocoin. for example this travel bug wants to go to Switzerland. so the owner places the travel bug or geocoin in the a geocache. a geocacher finds it he scans it and leaves a little note.  that note will be sent to the owner. the geocacher will move the travel bug to another geocache and the travel bug or geocoin will be on it’s way. the history of geocaching. geocacheing started shortly after the removal of selective ability . dave ulmer hid the first geocache in Beavercreek, Oregon on may 3rd 2000 and posted the coordinates online. on may 6th 2 people had already found the cache and thats how geocaching got started. but it wasn’t until groundspeak corp launched geocaching.com the number of geocachers and geocaches sky rocketed. now there are over 2 million geocaches all around the world from new york to japan. Geocaching originated from letter boxing a 150 year old treasure hunt that originates back to england. but i will talk more about letter boxing in a different post. i my self just heard about geocaching last september. i found my first geocache in Atlanta Georgia on a road trip i was on. we found several more geocaches on that trip. and then when i got back to Chicago i was even more interested and i started finding chicago caches with my smartphone. if you do have a smart phone you can buy the geocaching app theres a free one and a 10 dollar one. so i really encourage you to go out and find some geocaches cause it’s a great activity for all ages and you have a reason to go on a adventure get outside and have some fun.
